2014 Section Five All-Americans Announced

 Special The Head Coaches of Section Five met on Sunday afternoon to listen to the presentations of twenty-five players who had been nominated for All-America team honors. The awards, Academic All Americanssponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area of the country.

The Head Coaches of thirty-six teams came together to pick the players to receive the various awards.

The Academic All-American award is the highest honor given to a player who is both a great lacrosse player and an excellent student. US Lacrosse allows one award for each ten teams in the area and so there were three awards for Section Five this year. An Academic All-American must, first be selected as All American and then, where warranted, can be nominated as the result of their academic accomplishments. Seven players were nominated for the award this year.

The All-American award is given to great lacrosse players from the area. US Lacrosse allows one award for each five teams in the area, so with thirty-six teams in Section Five, there were seven awards available this year. Twenty-five players were nominated, but after the first team league lists were determined twenty-four players were considered. USLacrosse requires that players who are in leagues must make first team league honors in order to be considered.

Ryan KellyNew in 2012, US Lacrosse added an award named for the long-time Johns Hopkins lacrosse coach and Athletic Director, Bob Scott. The annual award is given to a senior of outstanding character, good academic standing and one who demonstrates good sportsmanship and safe play. The winner from Section Five, this year, was Honeoye Falls-Lima senior attackman, Ryan Kelly. Ryan`s outside interests have included tutoring in the Rochester City schools, representing his community at Boys State, helping in youth camps, attending leadership camps and winning numerous awards for his community works. One comment made for Ryan stated, "Ryan is the kid who makes us all proud. Proud that we live in a community where kids like Ryan kelly grow up,develop,excel and give back."

ACADEMIC ALL AMERICANS

ERIC MUNN - CanandaiguaEric Munn

Senior midfielder, Eric Munn was a member of the 2013 Class B All Tournament Team. In his three years on the Canandaigua Varsity, Eric has acquired 142 points (76g-66a) thus far.

In the off-season, he played for the SweetLax Club and attended the MVP, Best of The Best and NXT tournaments last summer and the UMass and Rutgers tournaments in the fall. He played for Canandaigua team in John Pepper and Hotbeds tournaments last summer and the Corn Field Classic and the West Genny tournaments in the fall.

An important part of the success of the Braves in 2014, the "A" student plans to study and play lacrosse at Siena College next fall.

NICK PANARA - Pittsford

Nick PanaraThe senior defenseman from Pittsford has played on the varsity team for three years. He is a two-time first team All League player and was named to the Second Team All Section list in 2013. He was named to the Under Amour All America Senior Game, US Lacrosse preseason Watchlist and was a Connors and Ferris Player of the Week this year.

Off-season, Nick has played in the Under Amour Upstate Underclass team and was named a Brine National High School All American.

Having taken six AP coursed this year, the "A" student will attend Fairfield University in the fall, where he will play for Pittsford alumnus, Andy Copelan.

BEN REEVES - Palmyra-Macedon

Ben Reeves

The senior attackman/midfielder has been on the Pal-Mac Varsity since seventh grade and over the six years has scored (to date) 600 Varsity points (287g-313a). He is a two-time All-American, has been named Finger Lakes Player of the Year for the last three years, was named to the Rochester D&C All-Greater Rochester Super 16 and has been a first team All-League member since 9th grade.

Off season he has helped win the Brogden Cup, has played on the Under Amour Upstate teams, had been named a Brine National High School All-American and has played on the Nike Upstate team.

The "A" student will be heading to Yale University where he expects to play for the Bulldogs.

" This year Pal-Mac began a Leadership and Mentor program in the High School, Ben was the single most positive influence on the student body. Words can't really explain what Ben has meant to our lacrosse program. EDDIE EDDINGTON - Geneva

Eddie EddingtonA senior at Geneva, Eddie has has a big year for the Panthers. With 64g-32a thus far in his senior year, the midfielder has been an important leader in this year's program. He had been a three year member of the first team Finger Lakes All-Star team.

The four year Varsity player expects to study and play lacrosse at SUNY Cortland next fall.

" Eddie is the vocal and physical leader of the team. He is our speaking captain and the player that has the complete respect of the coaches. Eddie lives and breathes lacrosse. He has played for Lionheart out of Marcellus, the Red Storm and has been on SweetLax for the last two years. KEVIN HILL - Webster Thomas

Kevin HillA three year Varsity player for Webster Thomas, the junior midfielder has already accumulated 144 career points (104g-40a).

In January of 2012, the then sophomore, announced his verbal commitment to study and play lacrosse at the Penn State University.

In the off-season Kevin has played for the SweetLax Club, playing in the UpLax Big 4 tournament, the Summer Showtime and King of the Hill, Philly Summer Invitational and MVP tournaments.

"Kevin was selected Captain by his teammates this spring. He is a great representative to the game. His commitment to our youth leagues in the off season is outstanding. He has spent countless hours developing our youth. Kevin is a constant in our Weight Room in the off season and has spent a great deal of time getting others to buy in and work on their skills. TREVOR HODGINS - Churchville-Chili

Trevor HodginsAn impact player for the Saints since eighth grade, Trevor has been a major factor in the rise of the Churchville-Chili lacrosse program. In his senior year he added 42g-26a to his career totals of 151g-101a. As a freshman he was named to the Class B All Tournament year and has been a three year first All-League (MC-d3) All Star. He is also a two time second team All-Section honoree.

In the off-season he has helped win the Brogden Cup, was named a Brine National All-American and played for the Under Amour UpState Underclass team. The Inside Lacrosse claimed in his sophomore summer that Hodgins was one of the more impressive players at the Syracuse Shootout, where he played for the Blaze Rising Junior team.

In July of 2012, Trevor announced his verbal commitment to study and play at Ohio State University.

JUSTIN KESSELRING - Fairport

Justin KesselringIn his two years on the Varsity, Justin has picked up 73g-37a to help lead the Red Raiders on the offensive side of the field. The Fairport senior attackman has registered points every game he has played on Varsity. He was named to the Class A Section Five All-Tournament team last season, after posting 4g-1a in the semifinal round.

After considering a number of schools, Justin decided on Le Moyne College

"Justin is the most responsible, fair and caring player I have ever coached. Justin without questions is one of the best young men I have had the pleasure to teach and coach. BRADON MACIEJEWSKI - Penn Yan Academy

Brandon MaciejewskiThe Penn Yan senior goalie has started in the cage for the Mustangs for the last four of his five years on the Varsity, recording, to date 706 saves in 3,578 minutes in the goal (63%). He has been named to the Class C All Tournament Team for the last three years. He was the Tournament MVP in 2012 and was name the goalie on the Rochester D&C All-Greater Rochester Super 16 team for the last two years.

Off-season he helped win the Brogden Cup, he played on the Nike UpState team and was a Brine National All-American. He has also played for the SweetLax Club.

In April of last year Brandon announced his decision to play for SUNY Stony Brook after his graduation from Penn Yan.

STEPHEN QUINZI - Pittsford

Stephen QuinziThe senior Pittsford attackman has four years experience with Panthers and a started for the last three years. He has recorded offensive points in every game on the schedule thus far this year and has a total of 32g-16a. He was named to the first team All-League list and the first Team All-Section list in for the last two years.

Off-season he has played on the Brogden Cup Championship team and has been named a Brine National High School All-American. He also played in the Nike Underclassmen Team and has been a member of the SweetLax Club.

In March of last year Stephen announced his decision to study and play at Georgetown University.

BRADLEY VOIGT - Penn Yan Academy

Bradley Voigt

A senior at Penn Yan Academy, Bradley is a five year starter for the Mustangs. Through numerous injuries he has still amassed over four hundred points (243g-158) to date, including 110 points this season while playing at both ends of the field. He has earned points on the Class C all tournament teams for the last two years and has been named to the first team All-Section team. He has also been named to the Rochester D&C All-Greater Rochester Super 16 team for the last two years.

Off-season his helped Rochester to win the Brogden Cup and has been named a Brine National All-American. In 2014 he was named an Under Amour All-American. He has played for the SweetLax Club.

After making a verbal commitment in his sophomore year, Bradley signed a National Letter of Intent to play and study at Syracuse University after graduation next fall.
