Wednesday: Quarter Final Games Spencerport Beats the Seeds
 - 

Twelve quarter final games were played today. The higher seeded teams all won except one, where Spencerport (#10) defeated Wayne (#7), 11-8. Thomas beat Hilton 12-8, Canandaigua beat Irondequoit 13-9, and Penfield beat R-H 11-5. Fairport, Pittsford, Penn Yan, Aquinas, Pal-Mac, Victor, Churchville-Chili and Gananda each won their games. Spencerport at Wayne

-- Spercial  Spencerport never trailed in their 11-8 win over Wayne. The Rangers were only the second lower seed of the tournament to defeat a higher seed. The Ranger`s Kasey Olsen scored the first goal of the game after receiving a pass from behind the cage from Colin McElligott. Olsen finished at 5g-1a for the Rangers. Wayne kept the game close with a fast break goal from Tim Oddi (assisted by John Bowman). Oddi finished with 3g-1a to lead the Screaming Eagles. Spencerport scored the next three goals to lead 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. Olsen scored a "garbage goal" after picking the ball off on the crease for the second goal and Ryan Schirano scored back to back goals to end the quarter.Spencerport at  Wayne

In the second quarter Wayne cut the Ranger lead to two goals. The first goal was scored by Oddi with an assist from Cody Matteson. Brandon Ellis scored for the Rangers during a broken clear with 8:25 remaining. The final goal of the first half was scored by Bowman. Midfielder Chris Ecker drove from behind the crease and found Bowman open on the crease after the slide. Spencerport held a 5-3 lead at the half.

Wayne scored the first goal of the third quarter to cut the lead to one goal. A cross-crease goal during a man-up play gave Bowman his second goal (assisted by Oddi). Spencerport retaliated with the next three goals. Olsen scored the first with a feed from Schirano. Ellis scored the next two with drives from behind the cage. Wayne`s Andrew Jenkins scored next with a drive around the back of the cage after a clear. There were two goals scored in the final 0:30. Spencerport scored from a broken clear. Schirano intercepted a pass and found McElligott open on the crease. McElligott crossed the ball to Ellis for the goal with 0:23 remaining. Wayne scored the last goal of the quarter with a quick break with 0:10 remaining and Oddi scoring (assisted by Moss). Spencerport led by three (9-6) after three quarters.Spencerport at  Wayne

In the final quarter, both teams added two goals. Olsen scored both for the Rangers with drives at the cage and an outside shot. Moss scored the first goal during man-up with a feed from Jenkins. The final goal of the game was a garbage goal from Chris Schimpf. In the cage for Wayne, Justin Townsend finished with 7 saves. Defenseman Thomas Harden and face-off midfielder Austin Leckinger finished with five ground balls each to lead the Screaming Eagles. Spencerport's Connor MacKenzie finished with seven saves. Midfielder Caleb Ramos led his team with seven ground balls. Andrew Forte and Schirano finished with six each and Jordan Swilley finished with five ground balls for the Rangers. Hilton at Thomas

-- Special  Fourth seeded Webster Thomas defeated fifth seeded Hilton 12-8 tonight in Webster. The Titans led 7-2 in the second quarter and held off a late Cadet advance. The Titans led 11-4 in the third quarter, their largest lead. Thomas finished the game with 40 shots (17 on cage) and Hilton finished with 32 shots (12 on cage). Leading the charge in shooting for the Titans was Kevin Hill with 12 shots (5 on cage and 3 goals). Hilton's Shawn Kimble finished with 8 shots (1 on cage and 1 goal).

Face-off midfielder Harald Juergens was impressive for the Cadets. He finished at 83% (15/18) with a team leading 13 ground balls. He also added 2g-1a for the Cadets, including two face-off fast-break goals. In the cage for the Cadets, Jarod Kimble played all but the last minute and recorded 5 saves. Midfielder Ricky Cocilova finished with six ground balls to supplement Juergens' total. For the Titans, Davis Bird recorded 4 saves. Defenseman Ryan Nugent was impressive at long stick with a team leading seven ground balls and 5 takes. Midfielder Teddy McCabe added five ground balls to the Titan count. Webster Thomas will play in the Class A semi final round when they play top seeded Fairport at 11:00 am on Saturday at Eastridge. return to top
