Wednesday: Upsets Today: Newark, Wayne and Irondequoit Advance

Proving that it isn`t over until all the games have been played, Newark, seeded 11th in the Class C tournament beat 2nd seeded Gananda in a one goal game and will advance to play Aquinas in the semi finals on Saturday. Irondequoit (#6) took out Churchville-Chili (#3) for their change to play Webster Thomas on Saturday. Canandaigua had a good game with McQuaid and will play Victor who beat HF-L. Penn Yan took out Livonia and Wayne (#5) beat Pal-Mac (#4) by a goal. The Class A, Class B and Class C brackets have been updated.

--  NOTES:  Aquinas stood on the shoulders of Terrance Richards, Elliot Clemmons and Nick Tschetter to defeat Geneva 7-6. The three combined for all the points and 84% of all shots by the Little Irish. Tschetter (2g-2a) finished with four points with Clemmons (2g-1) and Richards (3g) added three points each.

The Little Irish came out strong scoring three unanswered goals in under four minutes (Tschetter, Richards twice). Geneva scored their first goal thirty seconds later with Alijah Moses assisting Jason Feinberg. Tschetter scored his second with 0:24 remaining in the opening quarter to give the Little Irish a 4-1 lead after 12 minutes. Geneva played a strong catch up game but never tied the score. Feinberg scored back to back goals to open up the second quarter and bring the score to 4-3.

Aquinas scored the next two goals (one to finish the second and one to start the third. The Panthers pushed strong at the end of the game, scoring three of the last four. However, it was not enough. Michael DeVaney, Sam Miller and Ethan Bakogiannis scored for the Panthers. In the cage for Aquinas, Tony Deleo finished with seven saves (54%). Defenseman Tyler Olbrich finished with a team leading 6 ground balls and was 50% at the face off draw (7/14). For the Panthers, Jacob Drennen finished with six saves.

--  NOTES:  Tenth seeded Newark scored their second upset of the post-season with a 12-11 win over second seeded Gananda. The Reds were led in scoring by Andrew Garrett with 4g-1a. Newark fought back from a number of deficits and scored a four goals stretch in the fourth quarter to secure their win.

Gananda scored the first three goals of the game with Nick Rapp, Joe Fisher (Riley Palmer) and Patrick Shanley (Cruz Mayberry) scoring. Fisher and Rapp both finished with 4g for the Blue Panthers to lead. Defenseman Dylan Joy finished with 1g-3a. At the conclusion of the first quarter, Gananda held the 3-0 lead. Newark`s first goal was scored by Garrett with 11:13 remaining in the second quarter. Grant Howard added his lone goal to bring the game within one. Joy`s first assist came to Fisher to put the Blue Panthers back up by two.

Deven Lewis and Garrett scored with back to back goals to tie the game for the first time. 0:16 later, Gananda scored to put them back on top. Two minutes later they added another to lead 6-4 with 4:59 in the half. Both teams added a goal in the last two minutes of half with Garret scoring for Newark and Palmer scoring for Gananda. The Blue Panthers led 7-5 going into halftime.
Newark outscored Gananda 7-4 in the second half with a stretch of three unanswered goals in the third and four unanswered goals in the fourth. In the cage for Gananda, Justin Anken recorded five saves. Face off midfielder Remmy Glod finished at 54% (13/24). He also recorded 12 ground balls. Joy added another 12 and defenseman Matt Rapp added another four. For the Reds, Connor Tickner finished with 14 saves. Newark will come into the Semi-Finals as the lowest seed (10) in all three tournaments. They will face third seeded Aquinas on Saturday at Waterloo.
